Class Trip to Mohatta Palace

January 20th, 2011
Our Media Studies practical teacher Ms.Fauzia took us to a trip to Mohatta Palace. It was a pleasant and vivid experience. We took a thorough trip throughout the palace analyzing the artwork of various Pakistani artists. Since i have not been interested in Pure Art , i was not able to grasp the full picture of each and every masterpiece. However , help from my Media Teacher resulted in better understanding. We were given pair work to complete in roughly 15 minutes. My partner was my classmate and friend Andrew Jared Dean. We both shared similar views about Abdullah Syed's masterpiece khown as "The Flying Carpet" which consisted of a small carpet made out of US dollars. The dollars were cut down and stapled together to make the shape of a carpet. It was hanging at one corner of the room where it was placed. The creative part was that the carpet seemed to have shapes in it that were either cut down or left out and there were two spotlights from different angles shining at it. The two lights made the two shadows at the walls that were around it and each shadow had different shapes inside it which was really creative.I thought of posting an image as well to show his work.
The holes left open made daggers and weapons on one end and of Minarets at the other end. Abdullah Syed has tried to show that money can either be used for Good or Evil. By showing the US Dollar , he is trying to depict America. His work was unique in his own way that is why i decided that my pair work would be based on this artwork.
I would like to thank our Media Studies Practical Teacher Ms.Fauzia for arranging this trip, as this trip helped me gain a broader perspective of the Media from the artwork of "Media Creators" themselves. I would like to visit such exhibitions in the future.

Above shown: A very very sweet Medina had a sensor. Whenever somebody crossed over the sensor , the recording would begin to play. The recording was about the lives of people back when Pakistan first came into being.

Kamran and Aarish's Prelim

I helped in the lighting during the execution of the shots in which two of my school friends acted. Just thought i would put it up. I used primitive method of controlling the lighting for these particular shots. By simply on a raised platform(chair). I provided the light from a top angle and it was after constant trail and error that i managed to find a suitable angle for archieving perfection in lighting.

Location Pictures

The following are the pictures for our location. It is just what we needed to create the environment we want. It is suited for the specifics of our media assignment.

This is the area where we will shoot Afia's scene. The scene will consist of Afia standing in the lane shown and Faraz looking outside the living room window, only to find that the girl he killed standing outside his house.

This is the living room of my house. The guy is shown coming in after the party. He sits and has a drink , he then listens to messages on his answering machine.

This is another picture of the living room , but shot from a different angle. This is done to create a deeper meaning between the character and the narrative.
The above shown is a shot of the location where Faraz will walk in and sit on the sofa , then stand up and look through the window after he answers his ringing phone. Telephones and an answering machine can be seen on the right side on the sofa. (Right) This is a shot of the main entrance of our location after the main gate. The lush plants give a very nice background to the environment we are trying to create. The plantation gives a good aroma to the surroundings, making them more pleasant.

Shooting my Final film

Me and my teammates started shooting on 15th January 2011. We took a minimum of three retakes for each shot of our film. We cut out various scenes from the raw version. We will begin editing as soon as we finish our shooting. There are only two main shots remaining. Furthermore , Me and my school friends.(Afia, Andrew and Kamran) made a poster for the school concert, JC Live 2011 using Adobe Photoshop. It has been attached with this post.

Finally started my Final Project

We finally decided the location and cast for our final opening titles. The location we selected is my house. Me and my teammates thought that it was the best location for the environment we are trying to create. We want to make our opening titles with minimum amount of lighting(conventional for most slasher films). I will upload some pictures of the location and explain why we chose it in the first place. We are planning to start shooting within the next 48 hours. We decided that Faraz, a school friend will act as our main character. We will finalize our schedule and start shooting as soon as possible.
